Poor EBoo has been sick pretty much since we moved here. Maybe it was the change in elevation, the addition of new allergens, being around more kids at school and daycare? He's had an ear infection just about every two months for the past year. After landing in the ER twice because he couldn't breathe, we finally saw a pediatric ENT. As it turns out, the ears aren't really the problem. Its the tonsils that touch. They are SO swollen. Thus, his ears can't drain, causing back up and an infection. So, the tonsils and adenoids are coming out, and tubes are going in (for good measure). This all goes down bright and early tomorrow. Wish us luck and popsicles.
For what its worth, if your kiddo has to have surgery, I highly recommend the Mr Rogers book about it. Very informational and good about their feelings.
Another issue the poor kiddo is having is his size. When he was about 9 months old, he fell off of the growth charts. He's been the same weight for the past year or more. So, we've been referred to a pediatric endocrinologist. We met with her for the first time last Friday. She was great. Her son had the same issue, so she has Been There & Done That. That is so reassuring. The Hubs really put her through the ringer with his questions. The plan is this: in a few weeks, attend a 3-hour test, which is to be administered by IV. They'll trigger his pituitary gland and other things. It will be long and boring and EBoo is already scared of IVs. Wish us luck! From there, we decide on treatment, if any.
