The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

Ok, it’s NO secret that I am loving vampire lore. I got hooked into Twilight BIG TIME. Since, I've read Interview with A Vampire and intend to read the rest of Ann Rice's books. I've also started to watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series. Swoon. So I was chatting with some friends about if vampires could be real and I was suggested I read this book.

The narrator of the story is a young woman in the 1950s. She shares discussions she has had with her father and letters he has written to her. Her fathers stories talk about letters he has from his mentor in college. And the stories also talk about the mentors travels. Basically, several individuals find a blank book with nothing but a print of a huge dragon on the center page, and the book has a title of DRAKULA. The mentor found one. The father found one. This book takes them all over western Europe during a dangerous time. There is a serious thought that Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) was real and is still alive. The chase takes you all over, people are hurt and killed, love is found and in the end… Well, I won’t give it away. But it’s a thinker for sure!

It was tough for me to follow because I am not familiar with Western Europe and its history, but the author spelled most stuff out pretty well. It’s a long read, but if you’re into vampire/sci-fi lore, it’s a must read!
