#4 Wonder.
How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year?
How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year?

I
can’t totally take the credit for this entry. My friend, A, is an explorer.
When she travels, she goes on ADVENTURES. Whereas I would like nothing more
than my “toes in the water, ass in the sand… a cold beer in my hand” (Zac
Brown). She has visited me several times in the great mile-high state. Which is
a good thing because 1) I miss my friends, but 2) she makes me get out and SEE
things!
When
A was last here, we met up with The Hubs for lunch. After lunch, A said “ok
lets go somewhere”. We had talked about seeing Red Rocks, so headed that way. I
missed the exit, so we kept going on to Golden. I was in the wrong lane to turn
to see the Coors factory, so we ended up going left, up a mountain (?) and to
the Buffalo Bill burial site & museum. I had no idea that was right there!
The museum is small, but jam-packed with memorabilia for him life. Then you
take a short walk up a hill, and you see his grave (and that of his wife). It
was a bit chilly, but a lovely clear day and supposedly you can see into four
states from up there!
We
packed up and headed back down the mountain the opposite way that we came. From
there, we looped around and came upon a shrine to St Cabrini. Another thing I
didn’t know even existed. As we pulled into the parking lot, we were surrounded
by deer! Maybe 15 of them, just hanging out, munching on leaves. It was like
being on a deer-safari! I wanted to see the top of the shrine, but it is all
stairs, and we only had E-Boo in the stroller. I have plans to go back by
myself and enjoy a few moments of peace and tranquility in a prayerful
environment.
We
came out of there and headed back into Golden, to do a quick drive-by of Coors.
Even just driving by, it smells so good!
Then
we remembered that we initially set out for Red Rocks, so headed in that
direction. Got parked and headed into the gift shop & museum. They only do
tours once a day and the gift shop had just closed. But, we really had to pee,
lol! They have some exhibits up and open, so checked those out. Including a
poster from each year they’ve been open, with the acts from the year. We were
excited to find Dave Matthews Band listed (they have even recorded from Red
Rocks!) and checked out who played on significant dates (like our birthdays).
We
headed outside and into the amphitheater. It literally took my breath away. I
knew what it was, but a description does nothing to prepare you for what you
are going to see. So I am not eve going to try. Its just amazing to stand there
and then think “wow, this is all totally natural, and with perfect acoustics!”
We had fun taking goofy pictures and watching people work out there (crazies!).
They show movies and have an Easter morning service there, in addition to concerts…
Hopefully we can see something there soon!
After
all of that, we went home and CRASHED. And talked about what to do the next
time she visits! I need to keep up the wonder/wander spirit even when she isn’t
visiting, though!
