Week 4: Organize
Your Priorities
I have to admit, I way suck at this. I have my entire life.
So, I’m glad this has come along. Although its kind of a lacking chapter. I
kind of want the book to tell me what my priorities are. If I knew my
priorities, I wouldn’t have much of a problem organizing them. But, they give
SOME tips:
·
Ask
yourself, who and what is important to me? Think of your motivation, what
you want to accomplish in life.
·
Your
priorities should reflect what is important to you. If you don’t decide what they are, others will decide for you. Whoa,
deep. And so true. I think we’ve all been there. Keep a list of your priorities
handy (bathroom mirror, wallet, dashboard) so you can be reminded at all times.
·
Make a top
10 list. I give you permission to
watch Lettermen for research. Kidding. Draw up 10 things you are currently
active in. Then your 10 priorities. What doesn’t get on the priorities list
needs to be cut from your active roster.
·
Schedule
time to achieve your priorities. If building your relationship with your
partner is a Top 10, plan date night and stick to it! You are both worth it,
and the other stuff can wait.
·
Learn to
say no! Oy. Have you heard the saying “stop me before I volunteer again”??
That could SO be me. Its simple and brainless – I say no to every other
request, unless its dire.
·
Minimize
time spent with negative people. Easier said than done. Sometimes those
relationships are long and tight. I struggle with this daily.
·
Once a Month: Take time to call/write/visit a friend. Love this idea. I have a
big group of girl friends that are all over the country. I think I will write
more letters and cards.
·
Every 3-6 Months: Review your list and modify priorities as
your life changes. Seasons and growth can really change your life. For
instance, getting outside isn’t as much of a priority in the winter (since I’m
no ski bunny) than in the summer.
·
Once a Year: Evaluate your activities from the past year. Decide if you want to
renew this commitment.
