The Southern Vampire Mysteries (Sookie Stackhouse series) by Charlaine Harris

I am currently making my way through the Sookie Stackhouse books. These were the inspiration for HBOs drama, True Blood. As you may know, I have a current obsession with all things vampire. This started, of course, with a little novel called Twilight. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? After sailing through the Twilight Series, I fished around for more vampire lore. I’ve watched and read Interview with a Vampire and look forward to reading more of Anne Rice’s books! I have started to watch the Buffy the Vampire series on DVD. And never miss the current Vampire Diaries on the CW. I even read a more “adult” book, The Historian.

Since we don’t have HBO, I have only seen one episode of True Blood, but from just a glimpse, the books and the show are quite different. But I adore the books and can’t get enough. I have read 7 of the 10 published stories, with an 11th  on its way this May. I am stuck because I hate buying hardbacks. I know, I know.

Once I finish the series as it is, I’ll write up a review. There are more than just vamps. Sookie is a mind-reading barmaid. She encounters vampires (including dating a few), Werewolves, other shape shifters, fairies (like, the winged ones), witches, and one special vampire named Bubba. He was once known as the peanut butter & banana loving King of Rock. Supposedly he wasn't quite dead when he was brought to the morgue and the attendant that night was a huge fan. And a vampire. So he turned Bubba. This explains all of the sightings?!

Let me tell you, in my opinion, these books are great. A little less cheesy than Twilight and with a nice Southern-girl twist, y’all!
