Resolution Recap – February in Review

I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day during this short month! So many resolutions, so little time! Well, let’s get right to it…

·         Get Healthy: I didn’t share this when the news came out. But here are the results of my recent slew of doctor’s appointments… I do have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). This is evidenced by a high level of androgens (male hormone) found in blood tests. Other physical signs are facial hair, excess tummy fat, irregular or nonexistent periods and acne, to name a few.  My overall cholesterol is good, but my triglycerides (fat) are high. I do NOT have diabetes (thank goodness) but I am insulin resistant. PCOS and insulin resistance (pre-diabetes) often go hand-in-hand. Since I had a blood clot, I can’t do the usual treatment for PCOS – birth control pills. So I have been put on a diabetes medicine and have been instructed to lose weight by means of a low-carb diet and exercise. I am on Day 6 of Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. I am proud to report that I am down 11-ish pounds. Hopefully the weight loss plus the drugs gets my system in order!
·         Eat Less Red Meat: Well, on a diet that is mostly meat, dairy and veggies, this has been hard. However, I’m sticking to it. We had steak one night this week, sliced up on a Caesar salad. It was great! By Thursday, I was craving “junk” food. So we had bunless hickory burgers (with bacon, sautéed onions & BBQ sauce). It worked for the craving, and I didn’t really miss the bun! The burger part was eh, so I think next time I’ll be having that on chicken.
·         Get Active: I have to admit, I didn’t do any exercise this week. With killing carbs from my diet, I was nervous that I would encounter a low-blood-sugar situation. I’m used to having a SF Red Bull and a banana before working out. After five days, I think I’m cool, so I’ll be picking up the Wii Fit again!
·         Organize: I’m talking the talk, but not really walking the walk. I mean, I’m posting but not doing. I need to work on that. Sorry if I’m letting you down!
·         Get Out More: I did the pottery thing, and have been getting my pedicure. I need to really do this. I am very busy with my various voluntary stuff and being home with The Boy so much; I’m starting to feel blue. The ever-lasting snow doesn’t help with the blues either. The Hubs and I had 2 dates planned in February but only went on one. And that was just to a movie, so we didn’t really get to chit-chat much. I think he has planned a Roller Derby date for us in March with another couple, and to see Casablanca somewhere just the two of us. I love that movie! I’m planning a weekend trip for the family to the Colorado Springs/Pikes Peak area. I’m really looking forward to that!
·         Donate: I have donating my time down to an art. Well, not really an art. But I do it a LOT. I planned (with help from my co-planner!) a Valentine’s Day Party for the Moms Group kids at church. That was a total bust. I had 20+ kids RSVPd and 6 showed up. Quite honestly, I was pissed. We are on a tight budget and we could have saved that money for our final Spring Party. I am still teaching GOF. I am (sort of) signing in the choir. My sponsoring a lovely girl for RCIA is taking up that time during Lent. I look forward to Lent being over so that I can start attending rehearsals again. Sitting out has shown me that singing is truly how I pray best. It’s my ideal ministry. As for money/resources, we bought and donated some wipes and diapers to the nursery at church. That’s as far as I have gotten financially. It has been a tight month.
·         Pray More: I posted earlier in the month about The Hubs and I reading from the Little Black Book during Lent. I love this time. It is only a few minutes each night, but it helps immensely. I am also taking a lot of time to pray for my sponsee, Heather, as she finalizes the process of entering the Catholic church and affirming her faith. She is 17 years old, which is a tough time in life, without adding the faith thing. She has a few issues with the process and I pray daily that she works it out and comes to peace with her decision.
·         Time for Myself: This just really hasn’t happened, it seems. I am sort of blue over my health issues and other things. Blueness leads to me not wanting to go out on my own, which leads to more blueness. Darn viscious cycles. And I’ve been so busy that when I am home at night, I want to spend the time with my Men, not hide away in the tub reading or being out on my own. Do you have any ideas for free Mommy time?
·         Blog: It seems I only get a chance to sit down once a week and knock a few entries out. But please know that I keep a running list and do my best to catch up. Sorry of your reader is empty. If it is, I suggest adding a few more blogs. Mine isn’t interesting enough to carry a reader alone.
·         Wash Face Nightly: Yes! I stocked up on some more products. With that and the drugs I’m on, I should see some progress soon. Which reminds me – if you’re a make-up brush user… Wash them. Now!
Enjoy March! St Patty’s Day, Shamrock Shake, March Madness, warmer weather, clock changing… Exciting month!
