As I've mentioned, church was a huge part of our lives in CO. At first, I was simply looking for a way to get out of the house, meet people, sing. But the community at our former parish welcomed us with open arms and made us feel at HOME. The Hubs started attending Mass with me, and feel in love with the Church. He decided to take classes and become Catholic. After he confirmation, we both got very involved. I was in choir, the Moms group, taught Religious Education, helped with meals for funerals and was the volunteer coordinator for a non-profit/fair-trade bazaar. The Hubs was on the RCIA team, taught a skills & strengths finding workshop and worked to decorate the church. E-Boo? Well, he played in the nursery. And was just super cute.
At church, we not only worshiped God and fulfilled our need to help others, but we made some amazing, life-long friends. This "family" that we created was by far the hardest part of leaving CO. We knew that when we got settled, we needed to jump head first into our new parish to get that connection back.
We picked the parish closest to our new house, and have already toured and registered. I've attended choir rehearsal once. It was hard. Not the music, but the experience. It was SO different from what I was used to in Colorado. I have a rough time with things being different, so it'll take some time. But I love God & singing (and singing for God), so I'll obviously go back! Last week, I went to a fundraiser dinner for the Altar Rosary Society. It was super fun. They had a huge silent auction to raise money for the vestments for their priests. They brought in a hilarious Catholic comedienne. I met a few nice ladies and had a great night out. I even have a date to the Childrens Museum next week!
The Hubs has been traveling a lot, so its been harder for him to get involved. But looking at what they offer, he wants to take (and maybe down the road, teach) Financial Peace University. They have a church decorating team. Maybe he can even bring the strengths workshop to the parish!
As for E-Boo, it seems like he'll be busy. They offer Sunday school starting at age 3, pre-school and pee-wee sports! And thats just what he can do now!
Hopefully in time, we'll make some Indiana close friends, I look forward to that day!
Great news!
